Simon Ahtaridis, MD, MPH
Simon Ahtaridis is currently the Mercy Internal Medicine Service (MIMS) Medical Director at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, MA. He served as National President of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) from 2006 to 2007, and also served as Vice-President and Treasurer prior to his term as CIR President. Dr. Ahtaridis is a graduate from Temple University School of Medicine and received an MPH at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Prior to graduation, he worked for a year in Washington D.C. as the American Medical Student Association’s (AMSA) Legislative Affairs Director. In this position, Dr. Ahtaridis developed projects to promote medical student leadership skills and educated medical students on pertinent health policy and public health issues. As an internal medicine resident at Cambridge Health Alliance, he co-developed a health policy/advocacy elective for fellow medical residents.
Dr. Ahtaridis has won numerous awards including the 2008 and 2009 Cambridge Health Alliance Inpatient Attending Teaching Award, the 2005 Cambridge Health Alliance Resident Teaching Award, and the 2000 Dr. Quentin Young Health Activist Award.
His activist interests are in universal access to care and resident work-hours reform. Dr. Ahtaridis also has interests in medical humor.
