Hillary Tompkins, MD
Hillary Tompkins completed a GI fellowship at Boston Medical Center in June, 2011 and is now gastroenterologist at a physician practice in Exeter, NH. In May 2011 she was elected President of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU Healthcare).
Dr. Tompkins earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 2004, and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Boston Medical Center. She did a chief residency year at BMC prior to beginning her fellowship in gastroenterology. As an elected union leader, she represented fellow residents as a Hospital Delegate, Regional Vice President, and Executive Vice President before assuming her current position. Throughout this time she has played a critical role in improving resident physician employment standards, education and well-being and encouraging residents to be active advocates for their patients and for the survival of safety net hospitals.
Dr. Tompkins has received numerous awards for her clinical work, including a 2004 distinction for Excellence in Internal Medicine, and is a published researcher. As a postgraduate specialist in gastroenterology, she was also appointed to a Research Fellowship through Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital from 2009-2011, where she investigated the contribution of Interleukin 10 receptor mutations in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease.
